There are two things Derrick Upton, Realtor for Century 21 M&M in Madera, has always had a passion for: farming and real-estate.He graduated from California State University, Fresno in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics.
While working as a purchasing agent at a large garlic facility, he recognized something he had always known…. that a “desk job” didn’t suit him.He sold his house and with what little capital he had, he started farming.
Upton says, “I’ve been at it now for 10 years, and have grown everything from cotton to corn to hay and grains, and now only almonds and bees.Along the way, he became a licensed commercial pesticide applicator, a licensed commodities broker, and has done custom farming jobs on many farms and dairies in the Central Valley.”
Getting his real estate salesperson’s license was the next natural step for him. Derrick says, “I have always been fascinated with all types of real-estate, but especially with farms and ranches.Keeping myself informed regarding real estate transactions, trends, practices and pricing has always been my hobby. Now, I have made it my profession.”
What is Derrick Upton 'all about'?
Upton states, “I am NOT 'all about' making a sale.I am 'all about' my clients’ needs and them being content with their decisions.I am 'all about' integrity and ethics.I exercise them with my farming businesses, and they are my priority with my real estate business as well.I am 'all about' working as long as it takes to fulfill obligations, and am available at any time of the day or week.I am 'all about'going that extra mile.”
From being self-employed, Derrick has learned that going above-and-beyond is a necessity. To that end, Upton says, “I am NOT'all about'sitting behind a desk waiting for something to happen.I am 'all about' being out there, making contacts and connections to bring real estate buyers and sellers together.”
